In the thread about lightning and sporting events it was mentioned that at a VA tech football game commentator Lee Corso’s rental car was struck by lightning. I have always heard that cars did not get hit by lightning and they were the safest place to be in a thunderstorm. Are cars struck by lightning routinely or was God just sending a message?
cars do get struck by lightning, but they are the safest place to be in a thunderstorm (well, one of the safest places) because lightning does not penetrate the interior of a hollow conductor.
