Is maltose Better Than Sucrose?

I like the flavor of malt sugar, and I wonder if it is actually better for you than canr sugar (sucrose), or corn sugar 9fructose0, Knowing that the difference between these sugars is just a few extra atoms of hydrogen; is there any evidence that any sugar is better (in terms of caloric excess)? Malt sugar is pretty hard to find these days-can you buy pure malt sugar in garnulated form?

Maltose–isn’t that the stuff that they make decorative bird statues out of?

You know.

Calorically, all sugars, gram for gram, are virtually identical. Some sugars taste sweeter than others, however, so you would need less of it to get the same level of sweetness and therefore might save a few calories. Maltose is only about half as sweet as sucrose, so you would need to consume twice as much to get the same level of sweetness.

The difference between them is not just “a few atoms of hydrogen”. Maltose is a much larger molecule being two glucose joined together.

What difference this makes physiologically, I can’t say. Except that it has a slightly higher glycemic index value. http://www.carbs-information.com/glycemic-index/maltose-gi-value.htm

I am not sure where you are getting that maltose is much larger.

Maltose: C[sub]12[/sub]H[sub]22[/sub]O[sub]11[/sub] molecular weight: 342.296

Sucrose: C[sub]12[/sub]H[sub]22[/sub]O[sub]11[/sub] molecular weight: 342.296

Is maltose Better Than Scorsese?

I don’t know, what’s maltose directed lately?
OTOH, it doesn’t talk nearly so much.
