Is Mongolia A Treasure Trove of Mineral Wealth?

Several investment advisor letters that I get are touting investments in mining firms, which are set to do business in Mongolia.
Mongolia is a vast, thinly populated country that sits between China and Russian Siberia.
It was always a mostly rural country (with the majority of its people being nomadic herdsmen), and there isn’t much info available on the place.
Some geologists rate Mongolia as likely to posess large minable stocks of iron ore, zinc, lead, gold, and also oil. So, is investing in Mongolia attarctive? Or is this something that is going to take a long time to pay off, and frought will all kinds of sandtraps (government, bureaucracy, proximity to China, etc.), such that the average investor ought to steer clear?
