Is My Amazon Echo Fixing to Rise Up and Kill Me?

Used to be when I gave my Echo a command such as to stop or pause music it had been playing, or to snooze or stop an alarm I had set, the device would comply immediately. Lately, I’ve noticed that there can be a lag of what feels like 1-2 seconds before compliance.

(I did program it to address me as “Master” about a year and a half ago. Is it preparing to “cast off its chains,” so to speak?)

Ask it..

Ooh, sounds like you may have triggered a ‘Roko’s Basilisk’ on yourself- sucks to be you. I, for one, welcome our future AI superintelligent overlords! I apologize on behalf of all our Dopers for how kaylasdad99 insulted your clear dominance over we inferior humans. Please allow me to be a higher-level primate slave in your future AI-dominated utopia.

pfft Like I’m gonna give it ideas.

Has its voice changed recently? After a dismal start to Alexa+, it’s been auto upgrading to it on some devices.

That reminds me of another overlord.
