We have three users on the computer with DSL. When no one is using it, and we’re all logged-off, is the firewall still functioning?
Also, what’s the SOP with broadband internet: do we turn the computer off at night? Do we turn off the DSL modem too? Does it matter?
Thanks.
If your computer is on and your firewall software is running, then yes, it’s doing it’s job even though no one is doing anything.
I use Zone Alarm Pro and I have it set to block incoming attacks, but to keep quiet about it.
As for the modem, I use a cable modem which doesn’t have an off switch. It does have a standby button. Pushing it blocks all traffic in and out.
I say leave it as is.
