Is my iPod alright?

I got an iPod last year, but the system requirements were too great for my computer. Now, i have a computer that’s compatible with the system, and i’m ready to rock, but i am wondering if this iPod is the one that was a piece of junk, or something bad was up with it during the past year and they wound up giving incentives or some such, to avoid big lawsuits.
can anybody enlighten me which one was the crappy one? Mine is an iPod Mini, 4g, got it last Christmas.
thanks,
hh

AFAIK, it’s only the first-generation iPods that are crappy ones. They’re the ones with the battery that had to be completely discharged before being recharged or else recharging would kill it.

Well, if the recent lawsuit is to believed, it was the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd generation iPods that had serious battery issues. But yours is a mini, which, IIRC, was never mentioned in the lawsuit, so it should be fine.

I’m guessing that Mini is a fourth generation. Third generation ended in July 2004.

The Mini and 4G iPods (and AFAIK, all following models) are fine. If you’re worried about yours, the line for people that’ll be happy to ease your burden by taking the wretched thing off your hands starts behind me.

The earlier models had battery issues. Specifically:

Not that the 4G can play for a full day on a charge either…

Full information on the settlement.

Yup, I’ve got a 3G iPod and was sent the settlement info. Of course, you have to show proof of payment and I didn’t keep the receipt from the 1 year+ that I had it, so I got nuttin’ on it. Kinda sucks. The battery life on it has twindled down to hold a charge for maybe 1.5 hours now. I just bought the 5G 60GB video iPod and so far the battery life on that thing is awesome. (Getting it to cooperate with my computer is a much different story though).

I have a 20GB from Spring’05 (so 4th Gen?) and it’s a thing of beauty. I sprung for Altec Lansing’s “In Motion” speakers (tho I don’t think they’re available anymore) which charges they iPod while I listen at work
I’m thinking of getting a second iPod - maybe one with video - and use the older of the two to record my chorus rehearsals (with Griffen’s “iTalk”)

I got a 40GB back in April. The battery died earlier this month. If your iPod is still under warrenty, Apple customer service is exceptional. I sent my dead iPod in on a Monday and got my new iPod on a Thursday.
