Is my sister-in-law's computer dead?

I don’t think so, but here’s the sitch, and I apologize for the vague info - she’s no computer person:

Windows XP (I’m pretty sure)

All of a sudden, her picture (flat screen) went pixilated only around the edges. Her mouse pointer became a large-ish box with fuscia lines running vertically through it. Then it died. When rebooting, her monitor diaplays a message - seemingly from the monitor, not the OS - stating something like “no input detected.” She claims to have checked all connections.

I’m wondering if it could be a bad video card (no earthly idea what is in the machine), or that it has become unseated from its port inside. Are these reasonable possibilities?

I’ll try to get the exact error message when I can.

Thanks in advance.

Joe

I’d suggest she take it to a local computer shop to get the problem diagnosed and repaired. It could be any number of things.

It sounds like a video card problem. That’s all I have to say.
