I did not know that.
I know that, here in Texas, a LOT of Mexicans are very color conscious when it comes to their kids. Fair skin is preferred, and a baby daughter who’s dark-skinned is called, with a bit of disappointment, “a morenita.”
She’s morenita if she has dark hair, too, which would encompass the immense majority of the world. The preference for fair skin, specially in women, is very old and widespread, though: that’s something in which the weird datapoint is the now-almost-dead preference for super-tanned, or that other one for orange skin.
