Is 'organic" food a scam?

<mod>

TWEEEEEET! Time out!

The original question here was whether or not organic food was worth the increased cost.

Let’s get back to that, please. Blake Squink, and you others who are starting or continuing the debates, take it there. Start your own thread.

And I must say, this is the first time I’ve seen Googlefight used as a cite! Interesting, to say the least.

Keep it civil in GQ, folks.

Back to the OP, ok?

Actually, there are several questions in the OP:

  1. is there any USDA regulation that tells you exactly what you are paying for, when you buy this stuff?

Yes; this is answered.

  1. Is "organic’ food a trademark?
    Nope!

  2. Have any reputable studies found ANY difference in the nutitive content of organic vs non-organic produce?
    I’m unaware of any such studies, and I don’t think anyone else has linked to any such studies.

  3. Futher, suppose you try not to use insecticides and herbicides-wond the bugs and weeds all move from your neighbors to YOUR farm?
    I think this has been answered; the answer is, this can be minimized for insects, and of course it doesn’t happen for weeds, since weeds can’t pick up and move location.

  4. Finally, have any courts ever ruled on what the definition of organic is?
    It’s defined in the US by the USDA.
