Is paris Hilton a Philiosopher/Social Critic?

She’s a socialite, that IS her business. Seems she’s doing well at it.

Well, If she were just a spoiled lazy brat whore like people make her out to be; then nobody would ever hear about this woman. Much like her sister btw. When I say a mind for business, I mean she’s got alot of stuff out there; i.e. clothes, perfume, make up, a book ect. All this things take work to promote. They don’t just promote themselves ya know.

If you’re trying to contend to me that all this stuff is just handed to her on a silver platter; I’d have to say you’re way off base. There are a LOT of young ladies out there that are born into money like she is. A lot of young ladies who are WAY hotter, that we never even hear from. So it’s only logical to conclude that she does have something about her that the public just can’t get enough of.

Wheather it be the rolleyes effect or our teenage daugheters screeming “OMG, OMG! I want to be just like paris!”

I wouldn’t be so quick to give her much credit for “pulling off” this whole heirhead routine. She has a lot of things out there, but I would be curious to know how much initiative she had in going out and getting things started, as opposed to marketers approaching her to attach her name to their product. She is a brand. No one is giving credit to Ronald McDonald, Joe Camel, or Mickey Mouse for being great businessmen, because it’s the people in the company, the ones that are actually doing the work that make the brand successful.

It’s true that there are plenty of other young women that could trade positions with Paris if it was just about money. There’s another determining factor, like class. The Onasis granddaughter is worth billions, but I don’t recall ever seeing her in the “news” due to her own shameless self-promotion. It appears as though the Hilton family has no reservations about cashing in on any and every possible opportunity. (Just look at the mom’s ? new show. How long before we see Paris endorsing a pooper scooper?) Maybe they’re having fun (if so, more power to them), but I have the same thoughts about them as I do about people selling get-rich-quick schemes on infomercials: if they really knew how to make money, they wouldn’t need to be slumming it on stupid TV shows.

Hopefully our society can ride out the storm, and eventually this current scourge on American pop culture will pass. Then she will go into the books with the others that received their 15 minutes, like boy bands, and reality TV (fingers crossed).

We could be splitting hairs here but how does the saying go?

Only a fool doesn’t take every advantage given to him/her.

I mean what’s she supposed to do?

“Um, I’m sorry I can’t accept your ten million dollars to put my name on that bottle of perfume. Because that would be SHAMELESSLY promoting myself.”

All these nay-sayers leave me with the impession that’s exactly what she should do.

Gimme a break already. How many of those nay-sayers would hold themselves to such a high standard?
(FTR, I don’t have a link for this, so take it as you will: Paris has made more money on her own than she could possibly stand to inherit from her rich Daddy.)

When companies or brands are licensing products, the folks in charge at certain companies are a bit more discriminating in what they license, than others. For example, you probably don’t see Disney licensing Mickey Mouse toilet paper, cigarette holders, condoms, or decanters (waiting for the inevitable post that proves me wrong), because it doesn’t want to associate its brand with those types of things.

It may be an act, and she’s laughing all the way to the bank, but I personally wouldn’t put a “reality” show on that makes me out to be a complete idiot. Maybe she’s just poking fun at herself, and it’s all just playing to the image she has created, but my self-respect would prevent me from doing the same thing. Self-deprecation is one thing, but portraying yourself as a complete idiot that managed to be born lucky is something else.

There’s a cause and effect thing too. I would wager that she has had a much easier time acquiring her fortune than the millionaire down the street, your average entrepreneur, or even Grandpa Hilton. Not that it hasn’t required some work, but the reason she has made money is because she already has money, just as she is famous because she is famous. I think her earnings owe more to luck than hard work.
