I find it very irritating that they’re one of the easier ways I can send money to the Sri Lankan orphan I’ve been sponsoring, but they take a cut, so to get her her $25 a month I have to send at least $27.
I have two good experiences with PayPal when I originally had problems
- I paid for two tickets to a concert for day X. I received the tickets the day prior to the concert which was Y and when I looked at the tickets they were for the concert on Y and not X.
I tried to contact the seller but the mail failed. I then filed a claim with PayPal and I got my money back.
Another time I had never received tickets for an event I purchased I filed a claim then a year later they were able to refund my money
I have had PayPal for a few years now and I’ve never had any significant problems with them that were their fault. A number of bad buyers and sellers, but those were the fault of the buyers and sellers, not PayPal, and PayPal’s dispute process has never failed to find for me. Other than their fees, which can get a tad annoying, it has all worked just fine for me. I have a verified, confirmed premier business account with them, and I even have the PayPal debit card. No significant complaints here – certainly nothing I get more than mildly annoyed about, much less something that makes me want to bomb them.
I have had hundreds and hundreds of transactions through Paypal. They have the same problem as eBay (not suprising) poor customer service responses. They have a “robot” answer initial inquiries and problems with canned language.
But other than that, fine. At worst- annoying.
I’ve used them for years, keep a little money in the account and draw on it with their debit card. The interest they pay on money in the account was 5.4% last time I looked, and they also have a cash-back plan that rebates a percent or two on debit-card purchases. No complaints from me at all!
But I don’t sell much on eBay, and only with established members. I’ve never dealt with somebody who disappeared or sold questionable goods (or refused to take back and refund an item) so I can’t tell what would happen in that case. Maybe I would have some problems to describe in that case!
I can’t think of a problem anyone can have with a legitimate company that would warrant a terrorist act. People could have been killed.
I’ve had no problems. Actually once I ordered something from a website using paypal and accidentaly clicked the button and sent the payment twice which the company refused to acknowledge. I complained to paypal and got my money back even though the company was denying that I sent a double payment.
accidentally* and I guess it would have sounded better if I said “I once ordered”
I sell on ebay, take payments in my store and have bought thousands of dolars on ebay using paypal. Never a problem. I was swindled once by a seller but they did return my money. I have heard people that hate them with a passion, I am guessing they were pre-ebay users.
Well, pre-ebay, they upgraded my account (to one that takes fees from all received payments) without my permission, and then contacted me to say ‘oops, we made a mistake, sorry,’ but didn’t change it back. The account change turned out to work for me later on, but that was annoying. I also wish they’d extend their dispute deadline. 45 days isn’t enough when you’re waiting on packages to never show up from across the globe.
The stories I hear about how crappily they investigate/resolve seller/buyer disputes scare me, but luckily I haven’t suffered through one yet.
