That doesn’t make any sense. If he “knows” he’s not going to be re-elected, why does he need to hurry up and get in as much vacation time as he can now? He’s going to be effectively retired in a year. If he really believed his time in the Oval Office were that limited, you’d think he’d avoid a vacation, to spend as much time as possible pushing his political agenda while he still has the bully pulpit.
I told you that’s the way I see it, and now that I know that he and his wife used separate jets to get to Martha’s Vineyard at our expense, when they both could have gone in one, it tells me neither one gives a shit, and I think he realizes he doesn’t have his re-election in the bag. Sorry, but even as an opinion this makes no sense whatsoever. The President and First Lady have busy but separate schedules and often travel independently of one another. This has been true for the last umpteen presidents and first ladies, as you should well know. Their travel has been well-publicized since the days of the Kennedys.
The Obamas traveling separately or taking vacations in August, when Congress is in recess, isn’t an indicator of anything, because that’s exactly what every president and first lady does and has done for decades. It’s absolutely normal and you’re old enough that you should know it’s absolutely normal. That’s why you’re being called out on this, opinion or not. There are facts involved and the facts don’t support you in any way.
We all know that the electorate makes its decisions based on the facts, not perception. Or if there is some degree of perception involved, in in this the ordinariest of ordinary years, under circumstances just like every president before him, there’s certainly nothing Obama can do to change them and still be true to Himself. Otherwise, what, you want him to be some kind of . . . politician? And by the way, recommending that unemployed people eat brioche (commonly translated as “cake”) is actually a helpful suggestion for a nutritious alternative to ordinary bread. These are the facts.

Nah. The only “fact” is that brioche was used. Marie Antoinette never said “S’ils n’ont plus de pain, qu’ils mangent de la brioche” in any fashion. Voltaire did, at least the last half.
