Is psychiatry dishonest? Is it better for everyone if keeps faking diagnostic assurance?

Okay, after reflecting on it, my previous post may have been a bit of an overreaction. I withdraw it and I apologize.

You are forgiven.

I encourage people and woo works whatever that is?

It delivers trauma to the brain.
It is of the theory that like will heal like.
Sort of like Homeopathy.
However it is consciousness that has the problem
and the brain gets the blame for it.

I am a poet.

And you claim that you worked in a psychiatric hospital(albeit as a nightshift computer tech/Board Member/unlicensed counselor)?

No, in fact woo does not work. That’s a big part of what makes it woo.

Who was on 24 hour call for consultation and was brought in by the hospital to resolve matters in a positive way when patients were violent during assessments.

Hospitals always like relying on unlicensed and uncertified practioners. They’re not big on risk management. When they get sued for having untrained service providers, they just explain that it’s because love.

How can I tell woo from not woo?

I guess if its not woo it works or is it woo that woeks.

How you do get carried away.

I am not sure what kind of encouragement you are offering here. Offering friendship is nice, but if you’re suggesting some other kind of therapeutic knowhow, it’s in questionable taste.

Knock it off.

Everyone needs encouragement there is nothing wrong with encouragement.

Did you take note of what he said about me. Guess not.

OK I will leave this thread so you won’t be upset.

He didn’t say anything about you that you didn’t say about yourself first.

Of course, the placebo effect can often make it appear that woo works. I dance around you naked, and point the bone, and, to my surprise as much as yours, your cough goes away. The snake-oil dance actually did work – but only by persuading your body to heal itself.

And since he has already been Mod-Noted and has already declared his intention to stop posting in this thread, (regardless whether he follows though on his declaration), this is nothing more than an expression of personal animosity.

Take it to the Pit and stop both the squabbling with and what looks dangerously close to stalking of that poster.

It has often been remarked that the modern university has become a place of specialization rather than general learning. The need for mental assessment in the highest evolutionary period of man had been met by ordinary physicians of wide learning and good breeding, who could be relied upon in their judgment to perform an assessment of the patient using the latest medical knowledge at their disposal and a habitual tendency towards critical and rational thought, which had been fostered by higher educational standards and the institutional primacy of adult man. The specialization that now exists is a symptom of overpopulation, vulgar egalitarianism, and ignorance. The psychologist of today is the plumber of yesterday, for he has been trained in a trade, has no love of learning, and no platform on which to express it even if he had; so too his peers, in whatever town they hawk their services, for even the smallest country town now is apt to have a few psychologists. This specialization is nothing but a cancer and plague on the very idea of intelligence itself, since it betrays, firstly, the narrow, diluted education of the university today, and propagates secondly the notion of scientific equality in a field whose merits are chiefly anecdotal and utilitarian. Any man of superior intellect and learning can be a psychologist; the field of study exists merely in the same capacity as the loathsome tumor exists upon the succulent fruit.

And vice versa!

That was edited?

And a better path would be…?
