I’m really sorry.

I did call the Alabama number listed on that state contacts (no Mississippi statewide org I’m afraid) but the person who was on didn’t know of any MS resources. If you can think of any way that I might help, I’ll give it a go. You might try the Alabama number even if it’s way outside your reach. So much of human contact is by internet these days, physical distance isn’t what it once was.

Finally, for every slasher and weird unwashed guy walking down the fucking center stripe of Lexington Avenue “blessing” the cars as they whiz by, there may be 20 or 30 of us attracting far less attention, some of us on meds and many of us not, and you just never read about schizophrenics living relatively stable lives, coping, functioning, and liking who and how we are, but we’re here. Really.

Slightly OT, but I am working on a novel with a schizophrenic main character and when I gave the first draft to a friend to read she said it was the first genre book she’d read where the SZ character was not a serial killer, and where the disease was not a gift or curse of “the gods” or aliens. And this is a very well-read person. That seems like it’s saying something.

Thank you for this. I don’t think there is much that can be done at this point, but it means a lot to me that you would be so concerned. I am going to call the Alabama number also, and I already emailed the list you posted to her son. He is the one who is most involved in her care. I am really touched that you would do this for my family. Thank you.
