Is suicide inherent proof of mental illness?

I don’t know if suicidal ideation is proof of pain alone, I think it is also a sign of a lack of anything positive in life.

Some people contemplate and commit suicide because of some unending pain (physical or mental). Some do it because they have a terminal disease and they are trying to hasten their demise and avoid unneeded suffering. But some people seem to do it out of a sense of ennui and boredom, the fact that there is nothing that gives them any vitality or reason to keep waking up day after day and dealing with the grind. I don’t know if I’d put them in the same category as someone who commits suicide because they can’t handle the pain of losing their family in a car wreck, or the pain of having a serious mental illness that destroys their quality of life.

How come we have the same, damned learning curve on each new “well, maybe we need to re-think this” issue.

Truman racially integrated the US military - by issuing an order in his capacity as Commander-in-Chief.
It was 1964 before the civilian government took even a small step with the CVA.

It has taken over 40 years to get to the point where (most) will allow people to marry (and divorce) whoever they wish.

And we still haven’t shut the "it is too my business - God told me so! folks up on the subject of abortion*.

The thing these have in common: a realization that the rights of others are not subject to popular vote.
