That was my big thought as well. Set aside twice as much money for the alterations as for the dress.
Also, while you are certain it will look great on you, check their restock policy, etc. And if you can, make an appointment at a bridal store to try some on. Sometimes what you think is going to look great puts too much emphasis in the wrong places. Or it isn’t comfortable (and for a traditional long wedding day, wedding dresses are never comfy, but you don’t need “I look great and I can’t breathe and this dress is 20 pounds.”)
Thanks! And you’re not the only one, my grandmother call me at eleven o’clock last night to tell me she’s buying one of the mother-of-the-bride dresses to wear for that big day.
This, definitely. My fiance would prefer I still look around for a couple months before I start making appointments. He’s worried that I’ll find a dress that I love (the one I’ve been asking about…) and buy it, but then a few months down the road find one I like better and be sad because I had already bought one. I think I’m gonna wait another month or so (if I can hold it in for that long!) then start going to bridal shops and seeing what shape looks best on my body. I also want to be able to feel this taffeta stuff, I swear I don’t think I’ve ever felt that material before. And I definitely don’t think I’ll go for a heavy gown, I’d like something light and airy, it is going to be an outdoor wedding afterall.
Anyone picturing the following scene?
Officiant: I now pronounce you man and wife. You may kiss the bride.
[Mr. Meagan leans in for a kiss]
Meagan: Taffeta, darling.
Mr. Meagan: Taffeta, sweetheart.
Meagan: [pulling away] No, the dress is taffeta. It wrinkles so easily.
Hey girl. I am in the exact same boat as you!!! I found a dress online that I LOVE, and it’s cheap! It is also made out of Taffeta. I am wondering if you got the dress you were looking at that is made out of Taffeta? and if so, how is the material?
One of my concerns about buying online, is if the picture of the model in the dress is actually made of of Taffeta or if they just say Taffeta because that is what they will be making it out of and making it similar to the one in the picture (the site I am debating makes their dresses so they are not ready-to-wear)
