Is that how your mom did it?

Come thanksgiving time, I have to make two types of dressing. One kind is how my mom made it, the other how my wife’s mom made hers.

It took far to long for it to stop bothering me that when my wife makes an apple pie, she just slices the apples lengthwise. While my mother then took the added step of slicing the lengthwise strips crosswise again (resulting in smaller apple pieces). And that the wife used a shortening crust, while mom still used the old-fashioned lard crust. But I finally came to the conclusion that my wife’s apple pie was every bit as good as my moms. At a great surprize to me, so did my mom, as she asked the wife for her pie crust recipe the last time they came to visit.
