Is that Jupiter and the moon lined up right now ?( Setting in the western sky)
Venus. Jupiter is now in the morning sky. Mars is in the deep south, as far down there as it will get when near opposition.
They’ll be very close tomorrow (4-23) night.
Thanks. I didn’t think Venus got that high in the sky. Will look again tomorrow night.
There are a number of phone apps that let you just point your phone at the sky and the app tells you what you’re seeing. Stellarium Mobile is pretty good.
I’ve got Stellarium on my PC, but use SkyView on my phone. I’ll give Stellarium Mobile a try.
By the time I got out tonight, their positions were reversed. Venus was closer to setting than the moon. Both were against a backdrop of green northern lights.
Yeah, the moon sets about an hour later each night, because it rotates around the earth once a month. All the planets move across the sky much more slowly.
