A lot of musicians’ estates are fine making a buck out of licensing songs to any kind of commercial. I wouldn’t describe that as “X singing for a commercial” though.
Not as sad as Pete Seeger’s “Hard Times” being used for a freaking Volvo commercial. Because nothing says “luxury auto” like Pete Seeger singing about poor workers.
