This “SWAT fail” video has been making the rounds, usually labelled “Alaskan FBI SWAT raid”.
But seems a but suspect to me, not because the cops couldn’t be that crap during a raid(hey they avoided setting fire to any babies ). But no one is wearing any identification (no FBI labels on the uniforms, which are military camouflage), and there is military humvee parked on the lawn again with no police markings. So my guess this is some kind of military urban warfare training?
Would it even be legal to carry out a raid with no identifying marks at all to indicate you were police officers?
I’ve found it best to not underestimate the incompetence of the police. As for the video, I don’t know, but it’s not unusual for police departments to receive old military equipment, so the Humvee isn’t really an indication of anything. I’d hope they’d stencil “POLICE” on it or something at least, but then again, see my first sentence.
It very well could be real. I doubt there are laws designating specifically which markings they’re required to display, and the video is too poor for me to tell if their uniforms have LEO indicators or not.
Why were they trying to break down the doors on the two adjacent homes? And what was the deal with them standing back under cover when they eventually forced the doors open? My understanding of this sort of assault is that it’s supposed to be necessary to prevent the quick disposal of drugs, but here they were giving lots of time for any potential drugs to be flushed.
I don’t think it’s all that uncommon for police to raid, for example, both sides of a duplex. IIRC, that’s how some people have been killed in shootouts.
That being said, in this video, I don’t see them breaking down a second door. It looks at one point like one of the other guys is perhaps breaking into a side window on the same house or something.
Maybe, but it seems like a regular house at least. It’s in a normal-looking neighborhood, there are house numbers, someone is across the street filming the excitement, the balcony of the closer house has a BBQ or something on it, etc.
That looks like typical snout-house Anchorage housing, right down to the T-111 siding. That front door was giving them fits; I’m guessing a floor dead bolt at the bottom. He should have been smacking the door at the point of resistance instead of creating a breeze.
It looks to me to be a training exercise, likely on abandoned base housing somewhere. The rifles leaned on the garage door, and the guy casually sitting in the front seat of the HMMWV two feet from the steps of the place they’re nonchalantly trying to smash their way into lead me to believe they are in a controlled environment. Also, the dilapidated front steps just scream “base housing” to me. They don’t seem to be too thrilled to be doing it in the rain.
I was in the army and law enforcement for long time, and that’s my impression of the video, anyway.
It has to be. The point of executing a “no-knock” warrant is to not give the suspects time to dispose of incriminating evidence. And at no point does that team display any sense of urgency even after the door is breached. They also would not park their big, ostentatious humvee in the front yard and casually stroll up in their riot gear. Their approach would similarly be very fast and with as much cover as the environment allows. It simply must be a training exercise.
