In Knoxville, we called northeast retirees “halfbacks”, as in, “they moved from NY to FL, found it too hot, so they moved halfway back.”
sometimes if they have enough money they spend the winter in FL and the summers in the mountains of VA,NC, SC, etc. Mountains are pretty much 10+ degrees cooler than the rest of the SE.
If he can’t handle the obvious question of a Democratic voter, without losing it, there is no way he can handle Trump. He’s lost my vote. I’m not sure who has my vote, but it’s not him.
So you think he “lost it” on this person? Even fucking Fox News referred to it as “jokingly called her…”
if that was a joke it was a really bad one
I don’t have a lot to add to this, other than to say on Saturday I saw him on TV at live event, not up on a debate stage with makeup on and complimentary stage lighting, and he just looked old. He couldn’t fall back on rehearsed lines, and he just looked old. Did I say he looked old? I have a feeling that a lot of people who support him now remember the good old, vibrant Joe Biden and will be a bit shocked as I was when they see him like this. I long ago predicted he would falter, but once the debate season came around, and it looks like that’s going to happen. Good, because he would not look good as compared to Trump’s vitality that he will definitely bring to the debates.
I have not seen him in person but Bloomberg on TV looks much younger than 77. He looks like around 65 at most. He doesn’t look old to me at all. Sanders looks old on TV to me, also have not seen him in person.
He asked whether she had been to a caucus and called her a liar when she said she had. Why not just accept her answer? Why not say, “Well then you have seen …”. There was no need to insult her, even jokingly.
He’s even done it before–here’s an instance from January where a young man asks a serious question re Obamacare and goddamn if Creepy Unca Joe doesn’t call him the exact same thing but even more clearly than the current one.

Dude is fuckin’ mental.
I know Biden has always been a gaffe machine, but this isn’t good. He’s run for President 3 times and he’s never run as the wonk candidate: Dukakis, Obama, Buttigieg filled those roles. So, he’s surely met voters who don’t know the difference between a primary and a caucus. Explaining it is maddening when you’re canvassing or phone banking. But Joe should know.
Why did you run, Joe?
It’s not just the physical attributes that shook me. So for instance, Bloomberg and Sanders have more wrinkles. It was the whole package, the thinning (very) hair, the halting speech, the somewhat confused vibe he was giving off. Sanders and Bloomberg by comparison seem very engaged and able to speak on their feet. But not Biden.
In Klobuchar’s case, it’s more about the likability penalty than actual facts. If she were male the narrative about her would be about how she’s a take-charge manager and that she’ll be an excellent President by getting her people to work hard for her.
I’m not saying it was a smooth move but he didn’t “lose it”. And I would bet serious money she’s never been to a caucus.
What does that have to do with the question she asked?
I’m watching a Biden rally in New Hampshire right now. If I’m Biden’s campaign consultant, I would be saying: “Joe - avoid discussing statistics and numbers whenever possible.” Almost EVERY TIME he recites any numerical figures, he fucks something up and has to say “excuse me” and then re-do whatever number it was. It’s probably possible for him to simply sidestep direct pronouncements of numerical statistics.
Weird, now she’s at the Trump rally wearing Yang stuff and was escorted out.
Maybe someone on Biden’s staff knew she was a rabble rouser and that’s why Biden responded as he did. It was still the wrong and bizarre move.
At this juncture Biden is a loser.
He sounds desparate, and behind/playing catch up all the time. He has a habit of saying “Here’s the deal!” which is a sign of impatience with the democratic process itself, and that someone will not just give him the nomination because.
He cannot marshall his postiives in a way that is sympathetic.
Can someone explain what a dog-faced pony soldier is? Joke or not it makes me think Joe is losing his mind.
Oh, there’s been a hell of a lot of discussion and conjecture all over the internet trying to figure that out. As best as anyone can tell, it…possibly…comes from a John Wayne movie, though that’s as far as that line of inquiry goes, nobody has been able to point to a specific line in a specific movie.
Whatever the hell it is, it’s clearly some kind of idiosyncratic in-joke that only exists in Biden’s mind or among his inner circle. Those kind of references are better off not being deployed at public events, because nobody will know what it means and it just sounds fucking weird.
My hate for Biden has gradually been reduced to sympathy. I’ve seen and heard him enough at this point to know that he’s probably a decent guy with a big heart - but a very weak candidate.
She asked him about his performance at the Iowa caucuses.
