Bifar–people don’t attack WV_Woman or her beliefs simply because they disagree with them.

My religious beliefs, location, and political stance has EVERYTHING to do why people attack me on here.

If I were a pro-abortion liberal atheist from New York, those who attack me would adore me and commend me for my clever wit and sarcasm.

But no. I’m a pro-life Christian who happens to live in West Virginia. Easy target!

Why SHOULD I take the time out of my day to explain myself to a group of people who ridicule and insult me at every turn? It’s not that their opinions MATTER, it’s simply that it gets old. If I knew that it might make a difference, maybe I WOULD explain myself … but I already know the replies will be more of the same (“fuck you, you inbred toothless freak, etc.”) — so what’s the point?

Anne Coulter’s new book has described a good 20% of the people on this board. Ok, maybe not 20% … but a very vocal, hateful 10%. They hear something they disagree with and instead of saying “gee, I disagree,” they insult.

No, my debating style is not the best in the world. (From what you’ve seen, anyway, because I don’t use it here. No point.) Yes, I am wrong about things sometimes. But I would HATE to see how some people on this board act in real life … what has happened to these people to make them so damn hateful and rude? Do they act like this in real life, too, or do they just get online and bully people so they can feel better about themselves because their offline lives are miserable?

I think I already know the answer to that. Never mind.

Oh, poor, poor pitiful you. You notice that pro-life Christians like, say, beagledave (see him up there? Hi, beagledave!) don’t get attacked and insulted like you claim you do? Do you think maybe there’s a reason for that? He’s managed to speak intelligently and at length for the pro-life side in Great Debates, and comes heavily armed with cites. But people don’t treat him like they treat you. Must be coincidence.

There’s an old saying: If ten men tell you that you’re drunk, it might be best for you to lie down.

I’ve met probably 30-40 Dopers in person, including many whose political or social opinions are 180 degrees apart from mine, and I’ve never failed to have a good time with them, so any attributes you’re assigning to them are your invention alone.

Did that offend you, WV_Woman? Because that is exactly the sort of statement YOU make all the time about people who disagree with you. “Pro-aborts aren’t rational…”,“Gun control advocates aren’t rational…”. It’s ignorant, close-minded statements like that (And those are almost direct quotes—I can look them up if need be) that get on people’s nerves. Not because of where you’re from. Not because of what you believe. There are many people on this board who are pro-life, and can argue their position in a logical, sensible manner. You aren’t one of them.

While other posters have disagreed with me on some of the above points (well not about Iowa…yet :wink: ), those don’t automatically qualify me for pit threads and scorn based on lack of debating skills.

The annoyance of your debating and posting style comes from a wide range of posters. Doesn’t that tell you something?

Hip waders indeed. You are citicized not for where you live or what you believe, but for your posting tactics. There are many pro-life, Christian posters here, but they don’t get Pitted because they post reasoned, well-thought-out, and polite posts. You do not, and there’s the difference.

Ahhhh…way to stereotype. Speaking as an ardently pro-life Christian myself, people attack you because you come off as a looney. Look at the content of the above posts–the one that sticks out in my mind is where someone points out your tendency to stick your fingers in your ears and ignore people who give legitimate responses to your posts.

Let me be up front: while I agree with most of your stances (ignoring the Catholic ones above, given that I am a Catholic myself), I find your treatment of people on this board extremely undignified. You seem to boil down to an “I’m right, you know it, and if you don’t know it, it proves that I’m right.” Now…honestly…stop for a bloody minute and ask yourself if any reasonable person would want to talk to someone like that. Sorry, but Christians who behave like this DO give the rest of us a bad name. Evangelism is fine; being an asshole serves nothing but your own prideful need to prove yourself to the world.

To illustrate the point:
There’s an abortion clinic 10 minutes from my home. Every Friday, the local church group goes over there regardless of the weather, and God bless them for their perseverance. However, there’s two in particular who do nothing but yell at people, for whatever reason they go into the clinic. (This includes someone who drove in only to make a U-turn.) It’s nothing but “Don’t kill your baby!” and “Save your soul!” and all that. To this day, I haven’t seen a single person turn around and walk out of a clinic. Hell, I’m on their side, and I don’t like to talk to these people.

This is much like your own behavior. You rant, you rave, you drop in undignified little comments that seem to be little “in-jokes” that only you get. The people on these boards aren’t stupid. They can tell that you view them as some enemy that needs to be either converted or destroyed. You forget that all people, like yourself, are just that: people. They have needs, wants, and desires, and your little comments aren’t helping anyone.

Or, if you remember Christ’s comment: “You will know a tree by its fruits.” (Mt. 7:19). Your fruit seems pretty rotten to me.

If someone disagrees with your opinion or takes you to task for some fact you’ve posted that can be proven to be false, you get defensive and pull a “I don’t have to listen to you, LALALALALA”, kinda attitude. To me, it seems as though that attitude is the main thing people attack you for. (I may be wrong, but I’ve never seen anyone here say, “fuck you, you inbred toothless freak” to you).

If you’re wrong about something, it really does help if you say so. You’ve said here that you are sometimes wrong about things. How’s about you stop being so damn stubborn and go back to some of the threads you’ve been wrong in and admitting it there?

To return to the OP, I have to agree that the Catholic Church’s decision to retain pedophiliac priests is offensive. I also have to agree with tomndebb, and say that I believe the Vatican has chosen to ignore the issue of female priests due more to cultural pressures than to actual theology.

However, I would like to protest the treatment of WV_Woman. Since the thread was originally about an issue (problems with Catholicism), could it remain about that particular issue, rather than degenerate into the slinging of insults at each other? While I understand that WV_Woman has had her transgressions in the past, I think it would be a bit easier to focus on the topic at hand if we could temporarily put aside any Doper-bashing.

Just my opinion. I expect to be called to task for it.

I am no US basher but I am having a REALLY hard time with their actions lately!

They take murderers and other criminals and keep them as US citizens and provide them with health care and other government services.

And yet, they forbid honest Mexican people from entering the US when they just want to work and make a living.

What’s up with that?

Are they REALLY saying that they would rather have friggin criminals as citizens than any honest mexican?

Of course we do- who else is going to run our corporations? Those lazy, good for nothing orphans? Hardly. When it comes to first class criminal corporate leadership our country cannot fall behind. Maybe if those orphans would learn how to cook the books, defraud their banks and investors, and buy $6000 shower curtains with company money we could see fit to kicking a few visa’s their way. What do you expect us to do with our criminals? :confused: Deport them? Send them to some desert island in the Pacific? They have earned the right to live in America because they were born here.

No, it’s not a fair law to hard-working Mexicans who’d contribute more to society than some deadbeat jailbird, but that’s how it is.

And in regards to your link about the Romanian orphans denied entry to the U.S.: What has that got to do with us wishing to keep all our criminals? The article says that the US consul in Romania had made a decision, totally in keeping with U.S. law and legal practices, forbidding the children from coming here.

SUPERKARLENE “Woosh” means that something went “over your head” usually the intended humor of a post. In this case, that the post was a parody or sarcastic in nature and was not meant to be taken seriously.
