Is the Christian Trinity really pagan?

“Son of God” as used in the OT is an honorific, as I understand, it just means “Chosen of God” or “Favored of God.” The Messiah would be a man born of woman and man.

I think I first learned this here on the SDMB, but interestingly enough the Islamic view of Jesus is that he was born of a virgin through divine miracle. However, Muslims do not consider Jesus to have been the son of God, God in human form, or one of the aspects of God. They regard him as an entirely human man who was a great prophet, like Abraham, Moses, and Mohammed.

Yes that simple. Lots of rabbis wrote lots of things. I can’t speak for the Orthodox, but Conservatives and Reform certainly don’t believe in this. And there is certainly no support for it in the Tanakh.

You wouldn’t want me to say that all of Christianity believes what Billy Graham says, would you?

There is certainly reference to a rather unpleasant Afterlife in Isaiah 14 for whoever Heylel ben Shahar is.

You said there is “Judaism has no damnation”. I demonstrated that some elements of Judaism do indeed. Which you concede. And there is a lot more to Judaism than the Tanakh.

First, it is a bit hard to say what Judaism has - there is no real restriction on beliefs. Second, I certainly did not mean to say no one ever believed in damnation. If there are to sides to an argument we’ll have at least three disagreeing opinions.
And I also never meant to say that there are no consequences of doing evil - the wages of sin are death is pretty compatible with atoning to be written into the Book of Life.
But damnation was never mentioned once in any of the many sermons I sat through.
