Is the Flat Earth Society a spoof site?

At first glance, you think that they really believe what they are saying, then you see a comment like this:

http://www.flat-earth.org/platygaea/faq.html

This leads me to believe that it is a spoof site like Timecube, the author doesn’t really beleive it, but they just want to start an internet fad.

I don’t know about the site, but the founder of the Flat Earth Society lived in Palmdale, CA. (I lived in Lancaster and went to high school in Quartz Hill). I always found it amusing that he lived so near Edwards AFB and AF Plant 42, the Antelope Valley long being a hub of aerospace exploration. (The founder died many years ago, BTW.)

I noticed that the FAQ page was done by a Lee Harvey Oswald Smith. That might be a clue.

Well, the site domain is owned by someone with a Melbourne (Australia) University address. That should tell you something.

How can one live Down Under when the Earth is flat?

Ever try to find the “B-side” on a spherical record, smartypants?

Do you have a cite for timecube being a spoof? I always assumed he was just seriously deranged.

Flat Earth Society…reminded me of the Bad Religion song of the same name. Pretty cool song.

But didn’t the Flat Earth Society exist long before the Internet? (no cite). In which case, I think they might seriously be serious.
