Is The Phantom comic strip ending?

Seems that Diana, having read the real chronicle by Mozz, has sent the entire Bandar nation to ensure the return of Kit.

And this same story line, which started last spring, is still going on!

How long did the Diana in Gravelines Prison arc last? Has this surpassed it?

I think of that as a teaser arc that popped up in the middle of other arcs once in a while.

This seems to be a really long night. Or has sunrise occurred with a total eclipse?

If this turns out to be yet another fake-out imaginary story, I will be bestowing a few skull ring tattoos onto those responsible.

An entire week of continuous comicstrip action comes to about one page of film script, which is about one minute of film. (On the other hand, if you go back about a century, each individual strip was a new day, but that led to a lot of strips beginning, “Hey, you remember that thing we were talking about yesterday? Well, it just occurred to me that…,” so time was eventually made more elastic.)

Today’s strip: somebody’s gonna get a skull mark if he don’ shut up.

Did they ever figure out how he could leave a skull mark that could not be removed when he clobbered someone? My only exposure to The Phantom was my uncle’s stash of 1940-50s comics which I read back then. I also really liked “Blackhawk”. A bunch of pilots wearing tight black leather simultaneously vaulting over a wall into a den of Nazis while crying, “HAWKA!!”. What’s not to like?

A wizard medicine man did it.

More seriously, the mark is left by one of his rings; the ring has been imbued with acid – supplied by the Bandar – which leaves a permanent scar. The source for this is Scott Beatty but I don’t know how canonical it is.

Kit has returned from the monastery! Was that Mozz’s intention the entire time?

I am beginning to believe that Ol’ Mozz is just fucking with everybody for shits and giggles.

“You created me!” - Savarna Napier

Son of a bitch! A two year plotline…and it was all a fucking dream! Dallas only jerked our chains for one year with that “Bobbie Ewing death” dream .

New story: Phantom dreamed he’s Trump?

Only if it’s the “we both had the same dream” trope, which is not how I read it.

Well, his awkward “trying to explain the dream” is almost painful.

I used to drop in on “The Ghost Who Walks” every week or two, just to see what was up with a newspaper strip from my childhood, but I’m not even going to do that any more.

It’s a fallow period for strips, I’m afraid. Rex Morgan and Judge Parker are thoroughly boring. Crankshaft and Luann aren’t even trying to be amusing. And the amateur writing in Mary Worth has declined way past “inadvertently humorous” to “NO ONE would ever talk this way, why am I even bothering?”

Signing off…

I used to be a fan of Luann and followed the strip online for years. That’s a shame. But it has been something like 20 years since I last read it.
