Is the Platinum Guild manipulating the market?

I used to work for a jeweler who claimed the platinum industry lost a lot of money when certain innovations lowered the industrial demand for the stuff. Admittedly, the guy was a bit of a conspiracy theorist, but I think he had something. Recently I visited said guild’s website to find info corroborating what I was trying to expain to a costumer, which was that platinum jewery will tarnish when exposed to chlorine bleach. She was told it never tarnished, and lo and behold the website took her side. Now, I’ve been a bench jeweler for nearly sixteen years and I’ve learned a few tricks, one of which is how to “antique” platinum jewelry with bleach. I suppose in their defense one could say that the platinum isn’t tarnishing, the other metals in the alloy are (indium, iridium, cobalt). But these guys are claiming to provide consumer info for those buying jewelry which is always alloyed at least 90/10. Somethings stinks and I lost a customer as a result.
