Perhaps you should do some research on the phrase “First World” and the history of it. It’s not just about “luxuries”. (For one thing, a third world country, by definition, would not be “getting along just fine”)
Writing from a developing nation, when I read of “first world problems”, my first thought is can we avoid that?
The first world gave us Coca-Cola, we got diabetes
The FW gave us white bread, we lack fiber.
The FW taught us we need more than one TV, exhaustion of resources.
We have learned a lot from the FW, I hope we can learn to avoid much of it.
Every use of the term ‘First World Problem’ I’ve ever heard has been clearly to patronize rich, pampered, ignorant individuals of the first world when they make ridiculous comments about insignificant problems in their lives that they view as devastatingly bad (think Kardashians, reality stars, eight or even nine-figure rich divas (Oprah, Streisand, etc.)
The question is whether the phrase is patronizing to people in the Third World, not those in the First World.
