From The Beatles and the Stones to Chemical Brothers and Radiohead, Brits have long been chuffed with their islands’ musical (well, pop/rock/dance) output.
But do people in the US, or for that matter anywhere else, see the country as a musical powerhouse; an ex-pop hotspot; or neither?
Yeah, Britain is pretty much the only other country whose music is frequently represented in the American pop charts (Canada and Australia have also shown up, but not to such a high degree).
For me, it’s the home of Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, and Judas Priest, so it’s more or less the holy land.
Most of my favorite bands are from the UK/Ireland. Speaking entirely out of my ass, I’d say that the US produces more good music than the UK, but that’s only because we produce more of everything than the UK. Including (or especially) crap. In terms of good music per capita, the UK is in the lead.
