Is there a decent web-accessible Usenet server?

I like my baseball and movie newsgroups, but alas, can’t access by cable-provided news server from the road. And in my job, I’m on the road a LOT. And the SDMB only provides so many posts per hour.

Are there any decent FREE accessible news servers, either Web-based or usable thru Outlook?

And if not, any affordable ones?

Accounts are free.

This server is incomplete because Google honors the X-no-archive header. This can be a problem in a NG where many people use that header.

Still decent and free, though.

I’m resurrecting this because, well, I want to know if there’s a decent web-accessible usenet service.

I’ve been using dejanews, which became google something but worked the same.
Fantastic, just browse through a hierarchy to the group I wanted, see the current threads, read the ones I wanted, and if I wanted to read it regular-like, set a bookmark for the page with the latest threads.

Now Google’s gone and changed it to some kind of ‘Google groups’ interface, pushing the google-owned groups, and making it impossible to find a group that you don’t already know exists.

So, anybody know of any alternatives offering a deja-news like interface?

The following address may help some: http://freenews.maxbaud.net/ Although as far as I can see it’s mostly reference to news-servers it may have web-based items, too.

Dunno if any of these can do what you want. Also, WHY do you need web based? A good newsreader and NNTP server should be able to give you what you want.

The new Google Groups beta actually keeps X-No-Archive posts for 7 days anyway.
