In my attempts to stretch various tight muscles I have noticed that stretches which involve putting pressure on the muscle or trying to hold it down while stretching it work far better for me than regular stretches.
Is there a field of stretching devoted to this, and perhaps a book full of how to do stretches all over the body?
I don’t think it is myofascial release, but it is vaguely similar. Like with my scalenes, when I try to stretch them via the normal method of moving my head it does nothing. But when I hold my scalene down by wrapping my fingers around my collarbone, then do the head movements the stretch is much better. Same with my forearm, etc.
