obviously the Acrobat app lets you look at field names and otherwise edit the document, but Acrobat costs money. Meanwhile, apps based on iText can allow us to fill out a PDF document’s fields but to write the relevant program we need to know which field we see on the rendered PDF is which named field in the document.
So, is there by any chance a free/cheap app for finding out this info? I am guessing that something like that could be built on iText let’s say by having it insert additional text elements next to the form fields to communicate their names to the human user. But this would require a lot of iText competence, so maybe somebody has already built something like that?
