I’m sure AD has more incest-related themes than any primetime show in history.
Creepy, but I’m not sure it’s sexual. Some Oedipal overtones, sure.
Creepy, but not incestuous. They’re not related by blood. He’s her husband’s brother, and it may be totally wrong, but that does happen from time to time, I’m sure.
I think he’s said it may not happen since people know about the idea now. And I think the original idea was that she’d play his girlfriend who would not kiss him for various reasons.
There’s no actual incest on the show, but plenty of implied incest. And the Lucille-Buster thing is way more than just garden variety Oedipal.
There was an episode where the two of them got drunk, and were on great terms with each other. I swore they were about to do the naked bonobo dance. Or maybe that was my imagination. I look at Portia DiRossi and all I can think of is sex!
He thought Marta was seeing the guy who played her brother on El Amor Prohibido because, even though he took four years of high school Spanish and knew how to say brother in several languages, he didn’t know how to say it in Spanish. But it turned out to be Michael.
Now that I think about it, GOB also had a misunderstanding about his unnamed ex-wife being in love with her own brother when she really loved his brother-in-law.
Random thought: GOB is George Oscar Bluth II, meaning George Senior’s middle name is Oscar. Does that maen OScar’s middle name could be George? If Oscar had married Lucille, would GOB’s name be OGB?
We should also note the many things Tobias has said to Michael which had nasty connotations. And there’s also a bit of a running ‘sloppy-seconds’ thing on the show.
And yet for all that, they only real incestuous moments we’ve seen are…
[ul][li]George-Michael kissing Maeby twice, and he knows they might not be related[/li][li]Maeby lusting after and then making out with Steve Holt, and they don’t know they’re related[/li][li]Maeby kissing Annyong once, briefly, and they’re not biologically related and seem to feel no emotional attachment[/ul][/li]Is there a pattern there? Maybe.
