Is There a Name For 'This' Part of a Song?

In many popular songs (I am a teenager, so songs that are popular to me anyhow) there is often a point in the vocals where the singer reaches a “peak” of sorts, a climax if you will. It’s really hard for me to describe, but upon hearing it I find it very satisfying and was wondering what the name for this is particular moment in the song is, if there even is one.

The most recent song featuring a good “vocal climax” I am aware of is “U & Ur Hand” by Pink. I am not a huge fan of the artist or the song itself, but it does have the feature I am talking about. It comes during the chorus when she states “I was fine until you walked into my life”. I know this isn’t exactly a rare feature of music, but I don’t know what to refer to it as. What is the name of this feature?

I don’t know of a name for what you’re talking about. Really all she is doing in that part of the song is putting emphasis on the word walked.

I’ve always heard it referred to as the climax.

It could be the “hook” of the song: ie, the most memorable and catchy part.

The hook is generally repeated and short. I’m not familiar with the song. Climax is probably fine.

Many songs have a “bridge” which is a piece of music and sometimes vocals that is different to the standard verse and chorus. It can serve to break up the song a bit and may act as a platform for an instrumental or as a way of moving from an instrumental back to the main verse.

It is quite common for a bridge to give a sense of tension and release but it doesn’t have to.

Sometimes though, the vocal climax is just a part of the standard verse/chorus structure.
