Is there a name for this textile technique?

Here is an example of what I’m talking about.

It looks to me that the technique consists of taking a garment that is either plain or garment-dyed and then using a dye-sublimation process to apply a pattern to the garment, but parts of the garment are intentionally wrinkled or folded over so that the finished garment has somewhat random patches where the pattern is missing.

It seems to be very “in” right now. (Or perhaps not – since the examples I found were at Overstock.com!)

Anyhoo, is there a name for the technique?

Well, it may be considered a variant of tie-dye, ikat, or batik depending on how exactly the effect is produced. That’s my best guess at this point.

Shibori?

It’s not shibori, that’s a tie-dye technique (or properly a set of techniques), which involves immersion, not sublimation printing.

I don’t think there’s a name for this beyond “sublimation print with masking”, although it approaches a batik overdye mostly in look.
