Is there a place for no-fee online checking?

I am looking for a place on line to do my banking. Primarily an Ebay/paypal account that would have a low or no minimum balance required and low or no fee.

Am I SOL?

I pay absolutely no fees for the credit union my wife and I bank at. Then again I’ve been banking there for 20 years, but still most CU’s have great incentives and their money is insured to the hilts. Minimum balances are also nil at some CU’s…

Oh I forgot to mention…I do most if not all our banking online…

www.everbank.com

No fees. I like them. They also reimburse up to $6 ATM fees per month, which is the biggest issue with Online-only banks. Only drawback is that it takes days to get a certified check because there is no retail outlet.

Thanks!

I do all of my banking online without fees with USAA, but their services are generally only available to military and military dependants.

I use Keybank.com and their online banking is free. I have checking, savings, and bill paying and no fees at all. Also, you can transfer money from any of your Key accounts to any other account that has a routing number, free. I love this feature because I have a son in college and I can direct deposit money into his account with one click.

I do all my banking online and it’s free, they also provide you with ATM/Debt cards. If there is ever a charge against your checking account you did not make; they refund that amount the same day you bring it to their attention. They do not make you wait for your money while they go out and investigate.

Credit Unions are the way to go.

Digital Credit Union has branches in MA and NH. They are advertising to recruit new members, but you need to pay $10 to a charity in order to join. (Credit Unions can’t be open to the public, they need some sort of barrier to entry, even if it’s a silly one.)

Once you are a member DCU offers free everything. They even pay you back for when other banks charge you to use their ATM’s (up to $5 a month). You are a member, not a customer, and the result is that they don’t constantly screw you over for every dime possible the way that the larger banks do.

If you need to deposit in ATM’s or branches, then I suggest finding a good credit union in your area. If not, I suggest joining DCU.

Credit Union accounts are protected by the government in the same way that the FDIC protects bank accounts, BTW.
