Is there a SCOTUS case regarding Free Speech on state university property?

I’m looking specifically for a case in which protestors or solicitors were required to remain within “free-speech zones”, and either challenged that requirement in court or violated it and were subsequently arrested.

Failing that, any case in which somebody was arrested for exercising their right to speech on the grounds of a public college would be much appreciated, especially if the protestor was charged with disturbing the peace, or similar.

There is of course the precedent of Tinker which upholds the right of students (younger than college-age) to engage in peaceful protest on school property.

BOARD OF TRUSTEES, STATE UNIV. OF N. Y. v. FOX, 492 U.S. 469 (1989) looks upon very cursory examination to be close to what you’re looking for but no arrests.

Here is a list of cases which cite Turner. I didn’t review all of them.

Hope this helps.

Not perfect, but certainly better than what I was working with, ie. the usual textbook speech cases like Chaplinsky and Cohen.

Cheers, mate.

This didn’t go to SCOTUS (thank God!) but my own university, Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania, was taken to court for its speech code. The case settled with the court issuing an injunction barring the university from enforcing the code, and the code has since been eliminated. Any language or policy regarding speech is now non-binding on the student, and the entire campus is now open to protestors.

This site has the suit and related information.
