Is there a shareware equivalent of Game Jackal?

I bought some games and loaded them in my computer at work. The problem is that I don’t want to keep the game disks at work where there’s no place to readily secure them. But the games require the disk to start up (only as an anti-bootleg feature, once they’re started the games will play without them).

Somebody told me about a program called Game Jackal which will record the needed start-up information off your disk the first time you use it and then store it in the computer so you don’t need to keep using the disk. That’s what I want. But I’m cheap and I’d prefer not to buy Game Jackal just so I can play a couple of games. There’s a free demo version but it only works for 21 days.

So can anyone recommend me a shareware/freeware alternative to Game Jackal?

You want DAEMON Tools, the best freeware disc emulator going. It creates a copy of the disc image on your hard drive, which can be used for the purpose you describe.

There’s a pretty good rundown of the basics at daemon-help.
