Here’s what I mean. OK I like the song Alibis by Sergio Mendes.
Now I know I can buy it on the Classics, Vol. 18 - Greatest Hits CD, but I only like the one song by Medes
So I go to thinking, is there a website, where I can see if the song Alibis has been on a compliation CD? Maybe something like “Greatest Sounds of the 80s” or something like that. A CD with a bunch of different songs by various artists.
Another example is I like Dinah Shore’s version of I Could’ve Danced All Night, but I can’t seem to find which CD it’s located on. I have gone through a bunch on Amazon but can’t find.
So I’m looking for a website, if I plug in the name of a single (or song) I can see what CDs it has been on
Thanks
Sometimes you just have to use the right title.
*I Could Have Danced All Night *is found on the following Dinah Shore album:
LOL… Thanks for that…
You know what’s really odd? I posted this and went to do a Google search and my thread came up in the search. It took only a minute after posting for this thread to show up in a Google search
Thanks again for the lead?
Any ideas about a general website? I’d still like to know. If not it’d be a good idea for someone to make one
Allmusic lets you search for every recorded version of a song title. Unfortunately* Alibis* appears to only be on 3 Sergio Mendes albums. It lists 4 albums for the Dinah Shore version of I Could have Danced all Night.
You can use the CD database from Gracenote. Since a lot of the data is entered by users, you can often find rare discs that are otherwise uncatalogued. You can find bootlegs as well. The search is not very powerful, but there weren’t many hits for Alibis.
Night Beat [Disc 2] is a compilation CD that I did not see in the AllMusic list. It has a lot of '80’s music that you might like. The disc is old, however, and I would be surprised if you could find somewhere to buy it.
Another option is to download the song and burn it to a CD, but I realize that is not what your OP is asking.
