Sometimes my phones overheats and the battery drains rapidly. Something is using a lot of cpu power but when I go on settings, then battery it just days ‘screen’ as the main user of the battery.
I’ve had times where my phone wasn’t acting up, I was using the screen and the phone didn’t get hot to the touch or drain the battery rapidly. So something other than me using the screen is at fault, otherwise it’d so that each time I use it.
So is there an android app that’ll inform me why my phone overheats and why it’s battery drains rapidly sometime?
There’s supposedly a virus that attacks your battery. I’ve seen the attack page several times and they always try to intimidate people into loading their App. They even tell you a count of the viruses they’ve installed.
I’m not dumb enough to load their App.
But, I have observed my battery status is no longer correct. I’ve plugged in my car charger and my battery goes from 10% to 45% after a 10 min drive. That’s not possible. Afterwards, I go into the dr. Office and use my phone for maybe 15 mins and I’m back down to 10%. That 45% charge was bullshit.
That happens far too often. I’ve had times my battery warning goes off at 15% and my phone shuts off within 5 mins. I should easily have another 30 mins of battery left.
I’m convinced the hackers have done something to my phone. My battery status just isn’t correct anymore. I barely get 4 to 5 hours use on a full charge.
Antivirus scans and Malwarebytes doesn’t detect it. But, what I’m observing says otherwise.
I plan to backup my files and do a factory reset. That’s the only solution that will eliminate any and all malware.
There are several programs such as gsam and better battery stats which might be able to help you track down the misbehaving app. It can be very difficult though.
If your phone is getting warm, then something is running the cpu and preventing it from sleeping. Figuring out what is doing that is very difficult. Either of those programs I mentioned, and the builtin battery monitor, will tell you if an app is running the cpu, but what if an app is causing the operating system to run the cpu? Then it looks like “System” is using all the battery, but really the system is just doing something because an app asked for it.
Better battery stats can provide you with lots if information, but it is very difficult to interpret the results. Something like greenify may be able to put the offending app to sleep.
I was having that exact problem, that my phone would get warm and run down the battery. I finally figured out that about half the time I would pause (because there’s no stop) Google Play Music, it would freak out and cause a big battery drain. I’m not sure how I figured it out, other than just a hunch based on what I had been doing prior to the problem (playing music in the car, then pausing it, and leaving the car). Since I stopped using Google play music, I’ve not had the problem.
This is all different from just decreased battery life, because the battery is wearing out.
It’s unlikely to be malware, because if you only install apps through the app store, it is very unlikely you’ll get an malware. Bad and worthless programs, sure, but not malware.
Your symptoms to me sound like a failing battery. The voltage is all over the place, it seems to charge and discharge very quickly, and you don’t get the life you used to. If your phone is pretty new, then you can try a warranty claim, but depending on the manufacturer, the hoops you have to jump through might not be worth it. If the phone is 2+ years old, then you can look into replacing the battery.
You can try a factory reset, and it might help if you do have an app that is contributing to the problem. Of course, if you reset and then just reinstall the same misbehaving apps, it might not correct anything.
Too late to edit. Your battery should give you 300-500 discharge/recharge cycles. I usually get close to 2 years on a battery, but I accept some lousy performance at the end. I keep a dying battery plugged into my car anytime I drive, for instance.
I like having a near-cutting-edge phone, so it’s no big deal to me.
You could always get a new battery, if that’s something your phone “allows”.
It’s not necessarily CPU power that’s draining the battery that rapidly, it could also be something causing your phone to continually attempting to connect/transmit data to the cell towers, which can also use a lot of battery and cause overheating. I’d take a look at the data usage of all your apps to see if anything is using an inordinate amount of data.
Do you have frequent problems with your phone losing and regaining signal? Constantly hunting for a good tower to connect to can also be an issue.
