Is there an easy way to organize iTunes?

Yes, I know a lot of you don’t like iTunes. But, I just got Apple TV and I’m looking for a better way to organize the music I have on iTunes so I can play it using the Apple TV.

What I’d like to do is find a way to organize my iTunes collection into Classical, Jazz, Popular, and Misc., but then organized by album. I can’t seem to find a way to do this. I’m stuck going to the albums section and then having to scroll through every single ‘album’ even those that only have one track from some compilation or some free Amazon download. I want to be able to go to all my classical albums, pick one album, and then play the whole thing.

It seems like the genres feature is by song. That doesn’t work for classical or jazz.

Make sure you have gone to “View”->“Column Browser” and select “Show Column Browser”. Select whatever genre you like, then sort by album. Done.

You can also do separate smart playlists for each genre, and then sort by album. If you want to, there’s an option to “shuffle by album”.

Of course, this depends on your having your metadata in order. If not, just select every track for a particular genre, Get Info, and modify the genre field to be the genre you want.

Any results?
