Am I nuts, or was there another four letter abbreviation company that uses the same logo as KPMG?
A description would be the letters are italized and offset downleftward from four rectangles for some reason that escapes me. If you click on the link above and suffer through the Flash animation, you’ll see the logo in question.
Coincidently enough, I believe this company name also started with a K.
I was going to try all the combinations on my own, but that instinct died as soon as I got out my trusty TI-83 and asked it what 26[sup]3[/sup] was.
Does the following notice, at the bottom of the screen to which you linked, provide any helpful information?
(Particularly the part I’ve bolded.) It looks to me as though there are simply two separate firms. That happens. My company used to be XXXXXX Associates Inc. The first time I looked them up on the web, I found that XXXXXX Associates Inc. was an architectural firm on the West Coast. (We’re a computer consultant outfit in the Mid-West.) And, of course, before Arthur Andersen woke up and forced them to stop sullying the name, Accenture had used the name Andersen Consulting and, before that, Arthur Andersen Consulting. I don’t have a lot of sympathy, since Arthur Andersen created the slimes at Accenture, but the names were confusing for a while.)
Hmmmm. Having Googled “KPMG Consulting, Inc” and discovered a home page, http://www.kpmgconsulting.com/, with the identical logo and the very same page headers, fonts, and colors, I am now leaning toward the idea that KPMG Consulting, Inc, while “not affiliated” is actually one “independent” member of the same Swiss Verein.
(They certainly look as if all of them are among the spawn of Piet Marwick.)
16 US trademarks involving “KPMG” were returned, all but three are for KPMG Peat Marwick LLP. Those three appear to not be logos of any sort. Looks as if tomndebb is right about Peat Marwick licensing its logo.
I worked for them for 6 years, during which time they changed their name 3 or 4 times. KPMG Consulting broke off from KPMG LLP. KPMG LLP still has some ownership in Consulting, but they will lose it in a few years. KPMG LLP is part of the global KPMG. I am sure things have changed as I haven’t been there for over a year.
My wife is a CPA at KPMG LLP, and what AndrewD wrote is accurate. KPMG Consulting was spun off and went public last year; it is traded under the ticker KCIN. KPMG LLP is part of global KPMG and consists of the traditional accounting function of the firm.
