Right now they are 40-60% off. I know some kids I want to shop for, but I’d rather wait until they are 60-80% off.
Can I somehow get a notification for when the clearance prices drop again? I know the store may be picked clean but that is a risk I’m willing to take.
Like some kind of alert (other than calling the store or driving by)?
Not a definite “NO,” but I doubt it.
Both my wife and oldest DESKKid work at TRU and they only get at most two days advance notice of price changes. My wife has got calls several times asking her if she’ll change her schedule to come in to change the signs…the next day.
But even with that, is there any way I can find out when the signs change? Any website or alert? The Toys or us is miles from where I live and I don’t want to call or drive by every day to check if the signs change.
TL,DR: I couldn’t find any way to get notifications but some hopefully helpful tips below.
First, a caveat. There are three different types of stores and they’re all on different schedules. There are Babies R Us, Toys R Us, and “side by sides” which are Toys R Us and Babies R Us under one roof. The following only apply to Toys R Us.
Minor changes usually happen on every other Tuesday. The overall percentages don’t change, but the percentages of certain types of merchandise changes. For example, the overall is still 40% to 60%, but something that was 40% will change to 50% or 60% off.
Major changes (overall percentages) seem to be going into effect every other Thursday on weeks where the minor changes didn’t happen.
Please note that on the bottom of the signs it says “certain exemptions apply.” Lego, for example, are only at 30% and are unlikely to change until the very end, if at all.
Also, they’re still getting in new merchandise because they have to empty their warehouse before the stores close.
Remember that the prices lower when what is left isn’t what is wanted by those who came to the previous sale. When you get to the discount you want, there is a chance that what you will get at that discounted price will be the shelves the toys that you wanted sat upon.
My experience with store closing sales is that the people running it (usually not the original store):
Jack up the prices. So that 50%-60% off is an ordinary price. Need to get to 70+% to get an actual sale price, nevermind a great deal.
But by the time that comes around all the good stuff has been taken by people who aren’t good at knowing actual prices and percentages.
So you’re left with real junk. Esp. previously returned items that are clearly sketchy and which you can’t return if they are damaged, the wrong item in the box, even an empty box!
They bring in junk left over from there other going out of business sales and try to pawn those rejects off.
