What I mean is, if the DVD box doesn’t say. Can your player tell you?
Look at the pits in the disk - see if it has the region 0 pattern.
DVDs have the region code they are intended for printed on the disc itself. This may be part of a code number, possibly printed around the hub.
nice. way to be helpful
I don’t know of a way, unless the box says, to tell what region the DVD is for. If you try to play a dvd encoded for a region not supported by your DVD player, it won’t play.
Some DVD players are called region 0, meaning they will play discs encoded for any region. The industry has struck back and some DVDs will check for region 0 and refuse to play.
My DVD player determined it’s region according to the movies I played. It was not set to a specific region until I played a region 1 disc. Then, it was a region 1 player. Region 1 is USA/Canada.
Anyway, it’s a crap system they have put in place. It’s also illegal in some places, such as New Zealand. But you may be stuck with it.
Try to play the movie. It won’t hurt your DVD player. At worst, it will refuse to play.
Try the “Nero Info Tool” demo available at www.nero.com
It reports the region code of the inserted disk, amongst other useful things.
