Is there anyone to report this scam to?

I actually got an e-mail today from one of those Nigerian scam artist. You’ve all heard this scam, it’s a pigeon drop. Anyway, I got the same thing sent to my fax machine at work last week. I kept it.

These type of things really piss me off. They are 100% scam! Is there anyone specific I can report the e-mail to? I’m not so sure anything will be done about it, but hey, if anyone is ever prosecuted the more complaints the better the case.

I am pretty sure it’s the FBI.

Maybe the Secret Service?

I’m sure that law enforcement already has their hands full with suckers who have actually fallen for it. They wouldn’t have the time or resources to chase down the shadowy perpetrators of every Nigerian scam letter that’s sent out!

If it arrived by email, you could simply report it as spam to “abuse” at the domain the mail was sent from.

I think the best thing to do is just laugh.

And to do that, check out the Web site below by some guy who took the guy sending them for a ride. lol.

I got several of those emails from multiple email addresses within a couple of weeks and then saw a small item in the Washington Post about where to report it. It was some federal law enforcement agency, I don’t remember which one. I did, and never got even an acknolwedgement.

See also The Spam Letters and their response to the Nigerian scam. Very amusing.

These things certainly seem to have taken an upturn recently. I’ve had two in the last month and its ages since I’ve had one.

At the bottom of this page:

you will find the address of where to report this.

Be sure to add it to the Nigerian Scam Letter Gallery (if it isn’t already there).
