Is there anyone who can please help me with this annoying development?

I have noticed a recent development that really angers me.

When I link to some sites, I am presented with a small window that offers me some deal on subscribing to something they are selling and I can’t figure out how to get rid of this awful piece of crap.

Here is a lnk if you wish to try it: http://www.independent.co.uk

If you have a problem and can’t seem to close this window, you can always close the containing window - like, for example in Firefox, if you open a new sub-window and then click on the above link, you can just close that sub-window (or whatever the correct Firefox name is) and that will get rid of the problem window.

But, ideally, I’d really like to know how to get rid of it - for once and for all. If you click on the “X” in the upper right corner of the small window, it will close, but then it will reopen a few seconds later.

Most companies that put up a small window trying to solicit your business know better than to do something that enrages you. For example, I would never, ever give these people a plug nickel worth of business after they invonvenience me in this most unwelcome way.

I find this method to be an extreme nuisance and all I can say to the Independent is,

“Screw you stupid bastards! You want my money but you try to get it by annoying me like this?” You can just forget about it.

P.S. For those of you who may not know, a “plug nickel” is an American expression that means something with no value.
Thank you all very much

Tried with three different browsers and can not reproduce your problem. Did you register and log in by any chance? You tried pop-up blocker? It might be even location triggered. Then try opening it via some public proxy page (e.g. anyonimouse.org) and than report back.

Not getting any pop-ups using Safari on my iPad.

I’m not seeing a separate pop-up.

Firefox 29.0.1 with Adblock Plus.

A couple of PCs around me have had similar problems these past few weeks. The advertisements had a mention of “KeepNow” in small print at the bottom. In both cases it was caused by an undesired Firefox extension whose name I forget, and nobody could recall installing anything recently.

So I recommend you check the settings for add-ons, extensions and plug-ins in your browser, and disable everything you don’t know about; then close the browser completely and reopen it.

Aha! I can see that the problem likely stems from my Firefox settings. I will check into that pronto.

Thank you all very much!

If you’re still having problems there is an option to reset Firefox to its original state (of course you will lose addons, bookmarks, etc). If you click the Menu icon, then go down to the bottom and click the question mark symbol next to Customise. When the Help menu comes up select Troubleshooting Information. When that page comes up you will see the Reset option.

Needless to say, download Malwarebytesand run a full threat scan. I’m sure you didn’t ask to have this thing installed on your computer and who knows what else was installed without your knowledge.
