Is there anything worth eating in Midland TX?

I’m trapped in Midland for a few days, so I will have to eat something eventually. Previous sojourns have demonstrated that the Chic-Fil-A and Target have comestibles of similar edibility to their locations in other cities. I like chicken sandwiches and potato chips as much as, or more than, the next guy, but that’s going to get awfully boring and might be unhealthy or something after a week. Is there any good non-chain food to be had? Tex Mex, maybe? Is it too far west for barbecue? Help! Thanks.

Can’t recommend anything but here’s a start.

You’ll find a lot of Tex Mex. Go for a diner or truck stop that offers it.

Tex Mex is my favorite food. Tamales and enchiladas are always good. Good tex mex usually offers a plate dinner with a little of everything. That’s what I order.

this looks very good

Can’t think of anything off the top of my head but there HAS to be a good BBQ joint around there somewhere. Remeber, Texas is one of the orignal three BBQ states.

It’s been too long since I’ve been there to offer any real advice but the last time I was there I didn’t find anything decent. The food at the truck stops was terrible, imo.

I mostly wanted to clarify that there is no such thing as ‘too far west for barbecue’ in Texas.

That joint has their own tortilla factory, which is a good sign.

I’ve heard that Midland has at least one decent steak place (prob. somewhat high-end) but haven’t heard much else good about it.

I’d skip the barbecue… with the exception of a few places in the greater Austin area (Lockhart, Taylor, Llano), you should stick to barbecue east of I-45 in Texas. The rest of it is kind of embarrassing.

I know it’s tempting, but avoid the armadillos that you see dead on the side of the road. Only eat fresh armadillos.

Whenever I go anywhere for any length of time I ask these folks what’s for eats.

This place too.

From MPSIMS to Cafe Society.

The garlic press is pretty good. It’s a bit pricy but if you like garlic they have several nice dishes.

Bush?
