Yes. Here in the Vancouver area, we’ve had a lot less below freezing days and less snow.
As a matter of fact, the local news had a bit about it a couple of weeks ago. Apparently, between 1950 - 1980, we averaged 60cm of snow per year. It’s been dropping ever since and is now at about 34cm, per year.
Thank you for posting that link! I get about the same amount of heat from my antique oil lamps, too. The point being it’s a safer way to add heat vs running a grill in the house. Radiant heat vs running your natural gas/propane stove empty. Or sitting in a car to get warm. And cheaper than buying a heater (electric doesn’t work w/o electricity, kerosene has asphyxiation problems).
I like that one of the emphasis in most videos is to use non-combustible items whether as the focal point of the radiant heat (the flower pots made from clay/terracotta) and as the side raising items (bricks, trivets etc) and underneath the candle. I’ve placed tea candles on cup saucers (when I drink tea or coffee I use much larger cups
) that I haven’t used since I bought them.
I actually placed a tea candle in a metal holder on top of my pretty smelling Giant candle … so I had light, didn’t melt the Giant candle and, though not melted, the heat generated intensified the scent from the Giant candle. I seldom light that candle anyway but it has the best scent that wafts around just sitting on the table.
I suppose someday I’ll have to have Mistermage “peel” a layer down on all sides so the scent can “escape” again. 6 months and it still is giving a nice “hint” now and then. It’s my favorite color (purple) and my favorite scent (Lavender). I bought 2 for X-Mas for the 2 kids in their house. They like them … no lighting because 5 cats
Ar 12:30 central there is a LinkedIn news live event with Daniel Yergin (energy history author) who will discuss the power outage events , could be pretty good, I suspect he will do a good job at looking at a wide range of factors.
Yeah. We seem to be on the “alternating year snow” plan lately. Last year was a “no snow” year, and this year has been a moderate snow year, which is normal. The overall pattern is we’ll get hammered about once a decade, and we’re due. Probably next year.
