Surprised there’s been no thread on this. Currently the temp has just now barely cleared 40 F-we (NE Florida) may see temps in the teens tonite-and the nice weather people recently said that it may get even colder. Definite possibility of snow this week if conditions are right.
Usually when we get hit like this you Europeans are having heat waves-is that the case now?
I can only vouch for Michigan, which my thermometer currently reads: Damn Fucking Cold. Which loosely translates to ~20ºF during the day. Wind chill factor = HURT.
But that’s about right on target for January in the Mitt.
What’s there to say? Its cold, it sucks ass, I wanna go home and curl up with my dogs under a snuggly blankie. Oooh, hot cocoa too please. with marshmallows. And a book . . . lets make it a good one, a real page turner.
supposed to be single digit “highs” for the rest of the week. And more snow. Hate the snow.
I love the cold normally. This morning, however, I reached into my pocket and realized my hat was gone. I am now officially hatless today and the high is 30 degrees. I am going by the drugstore on the way home to be rehatified so I don’t die on my way home.
I was in Jacksonville last week. The wimps in my family were complaining of being half frozen to death when the temperature got down to a frosty 56F. Yes, I made fun of them.
Mom sent an e-mail this morning telling me it was in the low 20s there. I’d rather be here in the balmy north.
Exactly. It’s January, it’s Chicago, so it’s cold. Better this than the rapid freeze/thaw cycle that deposits ice all over the roads and walks.
Now a year ago or so, it was January or February, and we had a few days of really, really cold temps. So cold that I felt cold through the soles of my boots as I walked to the train station. Below zero F and definitely colder with windchill. That sort of cold I will complain about.
So yeah, I understand that other places are unnaturally cold, but here, well, it’s winter.
As I pay my heat bill “Are you sure you want to overpay your bill this month?” Looks at outdoor thermometer. It reads -2F
Yes, yes I’m sure I want to overpay this month.
I don’t mind the cold. I actually kind of enjoy it. But it does drag on after a while.
FWIW, it’s supposed to hit a balmy 10F Tuesday. Then back down to single digit highs afterwards.
FWIW I heard on the radio this morning that parts of England are experiencing 100 year lows at the moment, and Scotland is in the range of 40 year lows.
It’s cold here too, but well, I’m in the Ottawa area and that’s to be expected.
Yeah, we don’t get a lot of sympathy when we say it’s cold in Canada - I guess that’s a bit of a “duh.” January already - just another three months to go!
I can’t wait to watch the news tonight, so they can go to a local hospital and talk to Dr. Knows What I Know, who will be interviewed, and will adivise all of the viewing area to (get this): Dress in layers! Limit the amount of time you spend outdoors! Cover most exposed areas! Dress warmly!
Whouda thunk it?!
It’s cold! Bundle up! Pure genius! Ranks right up there with drinking lots of fluids when it’s hot and humid and limiting outdoor activity on those days above 90.
Toronto, Ontario here. It’s so cold my thermometer’s bulb fell off. And there’s still a little over two weeks to go before we hit what is generally the coldest day of the year.
I just deal with it as I can and then start getting excited around March 'cos we’re close enough to springtime that I can start to shrug off the winter blahs.
Every winter I marvel at people who lived here before central heating, double-pane windows, insulation, remote starters on cars, etc. Then I remember that this was me, in the 1950’s, when the only heat came from the wood-burning cookstove in the kitchen. Mornings we’d wake up to frost on the blankets. Why is it that as kids, we aren’t frustrated at the weather?
Sadie the pup has learned to potty really quickly. We’re thinking about booties, but she’d probably just eat them.
It’s cold, and I’m happy. Here in central New Jersey we haven’t had a real Winter in three, four years. We were walloped by a snow storm two weeks ago that gave us two feet. I’m sure I’ll get sick of it before February ends but, for now, I’m smiling.
With the windchill it’s -19c (-2F) here. When I go fill up with gas tonight I think I’ll buy a slush.
Before your jaw drops, remember I just have a few metres from the car to the station. When I was in high school we used to walk 2 blocks to the 7-11 for slushes in worse weather.
AuntiePam, when my mom was a really wee one my grandfather used to take them to school in the winter in the wagon-y thingie with a caboose in it to keep them warm. She said she was always so afraid that it would fall over and catch the wagon on fire.
