It's f****** stupid cold out there! (Location Maryland)

Here on the Eastern Shore of Maryland the winters are mostly fairly temperate, but man … not tonight! It’s 19 degrees fahrenheit out there. I would die if I tried to stay outside overnight without shelter.

Nature is not my buddy!

It was -3F here last night, and 8F right now. My nose hairs froze a little with each breath on the way home last night, looking forward to seeing if it happens again tonight with just a few degrees warmer. Weird sensation! I would probably mind it more if my work and home weren’t as well heated, or if I wasn’t wearing four layers while outside.

Yeah, yesterday I was like, “I’ll be fucked before I go outside today.” I did not put on pants at any point. It was awesome.

12F up on the hill right now. Low of 9F expected overnight. It’s supposed to bottom out at 7F Thursday night. I hope I don’t have to go anywhere.

It’s 11F in Baltimore. I don’t miss the heat and stifling humidity of the summer, but this is just too damn cold.

We had nighttime temps in the 15F range, and it was simply cold. Then last week, the fog and mist crawled in: the temps went up to about 30F, but that clingy wet sucked the bracing out of the air. The temperature was higher, but it felt colder and just plain miserable. At least we will finally get some proper rain this week, but I sure feel cheated out of our January summer week.

It’s been stupid miserable cold here in Colorado’s banana belt, with lows around zero or below for a couple of weeks now, and the highs have seldom reached past freezing. We’re used to it getting cold this time of year, but damn, it’s colder than a well digger’s ass.

My husband keeps looking at real estate in Florida (not really seriously).

12 degrees in my part of Maryland. Nice and brisk, as I like it!

According to my weather gadget, it’s 14° at my house and 19° here at work in Lexington Park, MD. Will it stay cold enough long enough to kill off some fleas and ticks? That’s the only redeeming value of the chill.

How much longer till spring??

This thread is performance art/comedy stuff, right?

:stuck_out_tongue:

It is currently -23 c (-9 F) but with the wind chill it feels like -33 c (-27 F).

Luckily I’m off to Florida tomorrow for a week!

It was ten below here yesterday. I worked from home so I wouldn’t need to walk in from the parking lot. My walls were cold and the furnace had a hard time keeping up. I put a portable heater and a humidifier in the office and closed the door…one little tropical room.

Now, now, don’t tease the southerners!

(excuse me while I go rake my roof some more  )

All I have to do is think back to the time in South Dakota when the temperature did not rise above zero for eight days straight, and the current cold snap here (7F low yesterday morning) seems positively balmy.

Well, there’s your new sig.

Every winter should be like this. December through February. Now where’s the damned snow?

17 F in Northern Virginia – here in the sunny South. And windy – 20-25 mph winds. I wanted to work on my car yesterday evening, but the heck with banging my knuckles on metal in that environment.

Last week it reached 24 degrees BELOW zero Fahrenheit at my house in central Colorado. That’s not counting wind chill.

Of course my car would not start, so I had to roll out extension cords and get a battery charger on it. Something you can’t really do with heavy gloves on. The extension cord was so stiff I was afraid I was going to break the insulation off when unrolling them (they are stored outside in the shed).

Fun fun in the dark at 6am.

It’s 63 right now at 6:17 in the morning. I just looked, it’s not snowing, but it’s too dark to see for sure.

Did anyone else read this as a to-do list? I like your style, there lady.

Seriously though, it’s so cold the dogs run outside, do their business and rush back in. Even the puppy who thinks coming inside is against his religion or something.

I feel like such a whiny little bitch–10 F and I’m letting it interfere with my running schedule. (No way I’m exposing my face to that. With possible sweat.) But I’ve had worse–I think St. Petersburg bottomed out at around -35 C the winter I was there. Of course, there I wore long underwear tops and bottoms, sweaters, and my Fourth Doctor scarf wrapped around my head a few times, but still… I feel like I should be made of sterner stuff now!
