Is there really no thread for The Leftovers?

Exactly.

Sorry to admit (no, I’m not) that I never watched “Perfect Strangers”, but I must have been exposed to the theme song because I found myself thinking that the cloyingly upbeat tune sounded familiar.

I’ve never watched the show either, but somehow I know the (really, really horrible) lyrics and it’s been stuck in my head for days now. Endless repeat. Gaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

There’s an easy cure:

think of Easy Street.

sonuvva!!

Or the theme from “Gilligan’s Island”.

What a fantastic ending! Grace’s story was just utterly heartbreaking. Especially contrasted with the other long monologue story in the episode, that of Kevin Sr.'s journey to sing the Song to hold back the flood. I thought it was good but not great episode up until Grace’s story, which made it utterly amazing.

I didn’t really get in to the old man treks the desert episode, but this past one was intense. So much happened that I’m still digesting it. Looking forward to next week.

Alright, so what exactly is the deal with the scientists and their radiation machine?

I had to re-watch the last episode but the guy that douses himself on fire while Garvey Sr is wondering the outback, first asks him: “Would you kill a kid to cure cancer”? To which Garvey says no. The guy replies: “That’s what I said!” then torches himself.

He’s clearly talking about the question the scientists are asking prospective “clients”. But he said no, and was refused, while Nora says yes, and yet she is refused as well. So what’s their deal?

I got the sense it was more the respondent’s attitude. Nora was so cavalier about it. “Kids die every day. What’s another one?” Maybe that turned them off.

I wonder if Nora ever leaves Australia? That flash forward of her in the first episode going by “Sarah” implies she stays.

Even though the scientists say they had nothing to do with the baby, perhaps the answer was linked to that. And so they surmised she was lying. But I feel they were telling the truth.

Or there is no right answer, and it’s all to do with their attitude.

Or the answer should be some form of complete internal contradiction; an “I don’t know!” type answer.

I’m starting to think this show can’t make a bad episode.

Yeah… it just seemed so flippant.

It appears that the explosion they talked about may lead to some crazy closing off of Australia perhaps. And then Nora just decides to stay? It now makes a bit more sense as to why she’d completely disown the knowledge of Kevin though.

Yep. That fight scene was intense, but it was bound to happen. Nora was clearly not invested in that relationship. She was ready to go to Australia on a moment’s notice with the possibility of disappearing forever. It never even occurred to her to let Kevin take half the 20k. There was no future for them really.

I LOL’ed when Nora said “I borrowed some of your duct tape.”

What an episode. Don’t even know where to begin…

“That was the guy I was telling you about”

This is a really good recap and character analysis of Matt.

‘“It’s a Matt, Matt, Matt, Matt World” is, like the series’ two previous Christopher Eccleston spotlights, one long, sick joke about the cruelty and capriciousness of belief, of the Almighty, and of life itself. And, like the previous two, it’s also the story of a rampant narcissist whose ever-changing, never-ending search for meaning — which inevitably leads to great physical and emotional suffering — is really about justifying his own choices and his place in the vast universe.’

I’m still chewing on this episode, as I do every week. I’m so sad that we’re past the halfway point to it being over.

That recap is great. I enjoyed reading the history of Matt. I had forgotten a few of those things.

I always love Matt-centered episodes. Because juxtaposed with his obnoxiousness and his glutton for punishment due to his ‘this is a test’ attitude, is the fact that he tends to be right a lot and he genuinely does seem to care about people (generally those he doesn’t know well - after all, who else would have jumped off the ferry to try to save that guy that was tossed off? Well maybe except Kevin, but the entire South Pacific may have drained itself to save Kevin).

I was expecting the captain to tell them that the God guy was a former police chief named Kevin.

I’ve been on and off binge watching this over the last couple weeks. It drags sometimes but also has some really riveting scenes. I’m all caught up now.
Anyone remember which episode ended with the song about no one laughing at God? Or know what the song/artist are?
